Video to DVD Transfer

Our video transfer service is the best way to enjoy your VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, hi-8 and mini-dv videotape over and over again!

Videotape degrades each time you play them. And even if you never insert them into a player to watch, they will still degrade-time is not friendly to videotape. Furthermore, players are becoming increasingly difficult to find and many stores no longer carry them. Replacement parts for existing VCR's are also becoming hard to come by.

And watching a videotape can also be a chore. Have you ever had to search through hours and hours of footage to find your favorite parts?

Let McKenna Video transfer your videotape to DVD and eliminate the headache:

  1. Go directly to the scene you want to watch.
  2. Watch on your TV (with compliant DVD player) or PC with a DVD drive.
  3. Eliminate the need to fast-forward and rewind.
  4. Organize your entire home video collection.
  5. Combine several tapes onto 1 DVD (to a limit of 2-hours per DVD).
  6.  Edit out the parts you want to eliminate with McKenna Video editing service.
  7.  Customize the look of your DVD with custom DVD authoring (subject to additional charges).

Common Questions

WHY SHOULD I USE McKENNA VIDEO OVER AN "ONLINE" OR DISCOUNT RETAILER?

The first reason is that we actually have a studio where you can bring your tapes and meet the people that will be completing your transfer. With online retailers you will have to send your tapes to them, which can be lost in the mail.

With both the online and discount retailers you don't know where your tapes are actually going to be transferred. Some online retailers have "factories" in Mexico and India, where your tapes can not only be lost or damaged during the shipping process but also in their factory. One such transfer house that we know about has a loss rate of 10%! That may not sound like a lot, but what if your order was part of that 10%?

And finally, video is our one-and-only business. As our owners like to say "we don't also sell dog food and pizza."  We treat each project as if it were our own, respecting each video tape, film, and photos and handling them with care. Can others claim that?

The other reason in quality. While transferring video tape sounds like a homogenous services (meaning one transfer is as good as another) our experience has shown that this is not the case. While others may provide a fancy case with a fancy disc wrap, it is the transfer of the content that our customers are most concerned with and factory or automated machine processes cannot give your tape the attention it deserves.

CAN I COMBINE MULTIPLE TAPES ONTO 1 DVD?

There are limitations to combining multiple videotapes onto 1 DVD, but in general the answer is yes.

CAN YOU START A TAPE AT A PARTICULAR POINT OR STOP IT BEFORE IT REACHES THE END?

We offer advanced transfer and editing services that will accomplish this.

WHAT IF MY TAPE HAS DETERIORATED BEYOND PLAYING?

We will take a look at your tape to determine if there is anything salvageable. Many times, our professional decks will find the audio and video signals when consumer grade players will not.

CAN I ADD A CUSTOM TITLE TO EACH DVD?

Yes!

I WANT TO EDIT MY VIDEO AND MASTER MY OWN DVD-WHAT CAN YOU DO?

A lot of our customers want to master their own DVDs, we just need to know that at the onset. Once digitized, we can transfer your unedited video to a mini-dv tape or on a hard-drive or flash drive (or DVD-ROM) as a Quicktime .mov, Window Media .wmv file and even an .MP4.

I HAVE SPECIFIC NEEDS FOR MY MENUS, CHAPTERS, ETC. CAN YOU HELP WITH THAT?

Certainly. Our goal is provide you with exactly what you want-something our competition will not do. We will conform your disc to your exact specifications.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Video transfer require real-time to play, so at a minimum we ask for the running time of all the video. And since we normally work projects on a first-come, first-serve basis it can take as long as our queue is. The important thing to remember is that you know exactly where your tapes are and who is working on them.

Having said that, we do offer rush services if needed for those emergency situations.

IS IT SAFE? WILL I RECEIVE MY VIDEO BACK?

Videotape is not destroyed or damaged in the process. We return everything that you bring or send to us.

TELL ME ONE MORE TIME WHY I SHOULDN'T JUST TAKE MY TAPES TO A DISCOUNT STORE?

First of all, they don't transfer your tapes. They use a service that sends your media to Mexico for transfer. This company (the biggest in the industry) has a bad reputation and often loses orders in transit and in factory.

Second, their transfer process often is very time consuming with media taking as long as 6 weeks to return.

Third, if your tape is not standard length (less than 2 hours) they will cut off your transfer and you will lose anything recorded past the 2 hour point.

Finally, they will not customize your order at all if that is your wish. McKenna Video will customize your transfer with titles, menus, chapter points, etc. to make your transfer unique-one of a kind.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Exact pricing depends length and the quantity of video tape that you bring to us and the services that you order. Please call for an estimate.
